The latest release from Habanos to arrive in the UK is the Montecristo Wide Edmundo. It is the fourth cigar in the brand’s portfolio to bear the Edmundo name, following the launch of the original in 2004. However, uniquely among its stablemates, the Wide Edmundo is dressed with a second band bearing its name. The Wide Edmundo is an entirely new vitola (size) within the Habanos portfolio called the Duke No.3. It measures an impressive 4 7/8” (125mm) x 54 ring gauge.. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that makes it the heaviest ring gauge in the Edmundo range.
Montecristo is the benchmark brand for many cigar smokers. Its perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world. All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.
Saint Luis Rey was founded just before the Second World War.
Some say that its name was taken from a Thomas Wilder play ‘The Bridge of San Luis Rey’, which was popular at the time. However it is more likely that it refers to the town ofSan Luis in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone, which is particularly famous for the superb wrapper leaves produced there.
Whatever the truth may be, Saint Luis Rey enjoy a reputation among Havana cigar lovers for the intensity of their flavour. They are made with filler and binder from the Vuelta Abajo zone.
All sizes are ‘Tripa Larga, Totalmente a Mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Quai d’Orsay was created in the 1970s for the French market. The name comes from the avenue in Paris where the headquarters of SEITA was located, the former state-owned French tobacco giant.
In 2017 the brand received a total make-over which included the introduction of two new sizes (No.50 & No.54) and stylish new packaging with re-designed eye-catching cigar bands. Perhaps partly as a reflection of how well the modernisation was accepted, the brand was selected for the very first time to be part of the Habanos Limited Edition family and in 2019 the Quai D’Orsay Senadores was showcased to a global cigar audience, although arriving for sale a year later in 2020.
The Senadores are a classic Hermoso No.2 size measuring 6 1/8” (157mm) x 48 ring gauge and are presented in Special Presentation Boxes (SPB’s) of 25 cigars. They join the Montecristo Supremos and Ramon Allones Allones No.2 to complete the 2019 Habanos Limited Edition range.
About the Brand:
This brand owes its origin to the refined taste of the French market. Created in the 1970’s, the name is taken from a well-known street in Paris beside the River Seine.
Although the current range is small, all Quai d’Orsay sizes are made with a distinctive light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone and its wrappers are mainly distinguished by their Claro (light brown) and Colorado Claro (mid brown) colours.
All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.
They are the first of two, much delayed, products to be released under the new ‘Linea Retro’ range, with a Partagas Capitols slated for a later release.
The retro metal tin has a flip-top lid, activated by pressing the logo on the front, and has been inspired by pocket cigar cases that were much in vogue in the 1970s. The original cases are now much sought after by collectors around the world and can fetch high prices when presented at auction.
The Club Kings are a classic mareva size ( 5⅛” (129mm) x 42) and so will be familiar to fans of the R&J No.2 Tubos, the Cedros de Luxe No.3 or the classic Petit Corona. All of which share the same dimensions.
This new cigar has been rolled to Romeo y Julieta’s classic medium bodied blend and provides a stylish and immanently portable alternative.
It has also been made “Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga”- Totally Handmade with Long Filler – after a careful selection of filler, binder and wrapper leaves from the best tobacco-growing plantation in the Vuelta Abajo area in Pinar del Río, Cuba.
These mareva sized cigars – 5 1/8″ (129mm) x 42 ring gauge – are presented in tins of five and are the second of two products to be released by Habanos S.A under the ‘Linea Retro’ title, following on from the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings earlier in the year.
The retro metal tin, inspired by pocket cigar cases that were much in vogue in the 1970s, makes these new additions eminently portable and quite stylish. The original 1970’s cases are now much sought after by collectors around the world, fetching high prices at auction.
These cigars have been rolled to the distinct full-flavoured blend that has made Partagas such a favourite over the years and have been made “totalmente a mano con tripa larga”- totally handmade with long filler. All of the filler, binder and wrapper leaves used in making these cigars are harvested from the best tobacco-growing plantation in the Vuelta Abajo area in Pinar del Río, Cuba.
Habanos Limited Editions are highly appreciated and anticipated by cigar enthusiasts every year, and even more so when this is a new vitolafrom one of the world’s benchmark Habano brands.
The Montecristo Supremos is the first of the much anticipated 2019 Habanos Limited Edition to be released in the UK. It is presented in a bespoke, Montecristo yellow box of 25 cigars and shares it’s dimensions with the ever-popular Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, measuring 5 ¼” (130mm) and with a ring gauge of 55.
This is the 10th time that Montecristo, the world’s best selling Havana brand, has been called upon to produce a prestigious Limited Edition and no other brand has produced more.
Within the Limited Edition series, which began in 2000 and can now boast of having over 60 releases, there are just three cigars with a larger diameter than the Montecristo Supremos.
This medium to full bodied cigar provides an hour or so of the classic ‘tangy’ Montecristo taste, with the dark wrapper providing a slightly sweet top taste to the blend and the extra ageing of all the leaves ensuring a rounded, smooth smoke.

La Gloria Cubana Britanicas Extra Regional UK - 2017 (Released in 2020)
La Gloria Cubana Britanicas Extra Regional UK - 2017 released in 2020 Size 48 ring by 137mm Factory name: Britanicas Extra Packaging: Box 10's
Just 6,000 numbered boxes of ten cigars have been produced. Such a rare and unusual shape is not easy to make. The cigar roller needs to possess the exceptional skill to handcraft each cigar which will not only look amazing but is carefully constructed to provide a consistent blend throughout and a good draw from start to finish.
Like the Bolivar Britannica's, only the highest graded cigar rollers in Cuba were assigned the task of producing these rare masterpieces. The bands that dress these cigars are recreations of an example found in a collection in Havana. The exact date for when these bands were in use is unknown but it is estimated that they originally come from the late 1890s or the early 20th century.
Measuring 53⁄8” (137mm) x 48 ring gauge and presented in SLB’s containing 10 cigars, this extremely rare vitola was inspired by the Bolivar Britanicas(UK Habanos Regional Edition 2012) which became one of the fastest selling and most sought-after Habanos Regional Editions ever released. The La Gloria Cubana Británicas Extra resurrects the style of the vitola (albeit with two point wider girth) and offers smoking enthusiasts and collectors the opportunity to once again enjoy its unique smoking characteristics whilst exploring the medium bodied delicate aromas of the La Gloria Cubana brand. The factory name “Británicas” is applied to a unique shape in the world of Havanas. It can best be described as a “Perfecto”, but it has the distinction of a wider aperture at the foot than is customary for cigars of this type, which makes it easier to light up and get going. Why and when the name “Británicas” was chosen by the Cuban industry is unknown, but it seems certain that it was first made for the British market. The shape survived to the present century because it was adopted by Romeo y Julieta for a cigar named the Celestiales Finos, which ceased production in 2002. The original vitola measured 53⁄8 inches (137mm) by 46 ring gauge, but the Gloria Cubana has two extra points added to its girth, which why its been christened a “Británicas Extra”.

The Partagás Lusitania, Gran Reserva has been released in the UK and is available throughout the network of Havana Cigar Specialists.
This extremely limited production cigar comes in 5,000 lacquered boxes containing 15 cigars (only 75,000 cigars have been produced for the global market). The blend has been devised by Arnaldo Bichot, the master blender at the Partagás Cigar Factory. The wrapper, binder and filler leaves were harvested in 2007 and then subjected to a long and thorough aging process.
The 2007 harvest actually began in December 2006 and finished in March 2007. Each of the five types of leaf used to make this cigar (three in the filler, one for the binder and the last for the wrapper) underwent the standard curing, sorting, fermentation and classification processes that take up to twelve months to complete. Then they were packed into bales to mature gradually during the last nine months of 2008, all of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, and the first three months of 2013.
The idea of special productions of Cuban cigars made from aged leaves is not new. Ediciones Limitadas, first released in 2000 were originally dressed in wrappers that had been aged for two years, rather than the standard six months. Since 2007 all of the tobaccos used in these cigars, including filler and binder, have been aged for two years.
The start of 2004 saw the release of the first Reserva, the Cohiba Selección Reserva, a selection of five different vitolas that had been produced using tobaccos that had been aged for three years. Since then there have been three more Reserva releases, each in 5,000 numbered boxes of 20 cigars, 100,000 cigars in total. 2005 saw the release of the Partagás Serie D No. 4, 2007 the Montecristo No. 4 and 2012) saw the introduction of the Romeo y Julieta Churchill (released in 2013).
To date there has only been two previous Gran Reservas. 2009 saw the launch of the Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva, then in 2011 it was the turn of the Montecristo No.2 (released in 2012). Now, in 2013 the Partagás Lusitania assumes its rightful place in this exalted canon
This classy medium to full Pirámides is everything that a Cohiba Limited Edition should be. Although a re-release of the 2001 original, it is a superb cigar in its own right. The 2006 versions are available in more friendly and portable boxes of ten.

Hoyo de Monterrey is by far the most popular brand within the light flavour category outlined by Habanos S. A. The Le Hoyo series is typified by a delicate, cedar taste with a hint of white pepper and cream, that remains light enough for inexperienced smokers, while offering enough elegance and layering of flavours to keep aficionados satisfied.
Min Ron NEE in his 2003 tome ‘An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars’ says Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are ‘characterised by their soft, sweet style. The tobacco blend is creamy sweet, mild and aromatic’.
This new cigar displays all of these classic characteristics but, with a 54 ring gauge, does so within a very modern format. Most agree that, although it is displaying a great deal of subtlety, finesse and delicacy already, it also has wonderful ageing potential for the medium to long term.
A most welcome addition to the Hoyo family.

H. Upmann is classified as Light to Medium by Habanos S.A, the Cuban company responsible for the global marketing and distribution of Cuban cigars.
The H. Upmann taste is often said to have a clear and clean tobacco taste, often mistakenly described as ‘simple’ by less experienced smokers.
The American publication, Cigar Aficionado scored this cigar 89 out of 100 in a February 2017 review, saying "This cigar exudes a pleasant, toasty aroma as it burns. Floral intonations segue into a strong peanut character with touches of cinnamon, woodiness and a mineral finish.”
Although relatively young this cigar is already smoking very well and exhibiting many classic H. Upmann flavours. However, it seems destined to develop even more once it has acquired two or three years age.
