The Davidoff Aniversario No. 1 with its impressive size allows for a pronounced development of all three parts of the cigar, during which the blend's sophisticated taste is brought out nicely. The Chefs Edition 2025 blend incorporates select tobaccos from Davidoff's iconic White Band Collection, mirroring the chef's signature lightness and finesse. To introduce fresh notes while enhancing complexity, Davidoff's Master Blenders meticulously experimented with a variety of tobaccos and ageing techniques.

Amongst other tobaccos, additional highlights of the blend include a Dominican San Vicente that was patiently aged for 15 years for exceptional depth, a Dominican hybrid tobacco for fresh lemon notes and a Dominican Piloto that was aged in Yagua bales for five years – a technique that has never been applied to tobacco in a Davidoff cigar before. The meticulous, labour-intensive traditional method involves carefully wrapping the tobacco in natural Yagua palm leaves, whose fibrous texture allows for a more refined ageing environment. This enhances the cigar’s smoothness, sweetness and complexity

The cigar opens with notes of cayenne pepper, followed by sweet whipped cream. The Yagua-aged tobacco brings complex floral aromas to the blend. As the journey continues, an impressive bouquet of flavours emerges. Cayenne pepper is still present in the retrohale, while notes of perfumy rosewood, leather and a subtle hint of lemon entertain the palate. Towards the end of the cigar, the intensity increases slightly, unveiling a crescendo of fresh spice, coffee and oak wood. Perfumed flavours from the second third give way to more robust notes. A true masterpiece that fills time beautifully for 60 to 80 minutes.

From the beginning, the blend intrigues when spice meets sweet as chilli pepper plays with softer, creamy notes. The Year of the Dragon Limited Edition completes Davidoff’s cycle of twelve consecutive celebrations around a Chinese zodiac. The brand honors the important year with several limited-edition products inspired by the Dragon and its fascinating personality. 

The powerful Dragon requires an equal format, making this zodiac’s cigar the biggest creation out of all “Year of” executions to date. The double corona carries an eye-catching foot ring which covers the uncut part of the cigar. This enables aficionados to enjoy the first inch/2.5 cm of the masterpiece without the wrapper leaf, which creates an intriguing play of flavors and visualizes the Dragon spitting fire.

The blend consists of 8 tobaccos, combined for a total of 60 years aging. In 2024, this number will match the age of a person born in 1964, which is also a Year of the Dragon. This year’s edition comes in a handsome box of ten cigars. The top surface of the box shows a captivating iridescent varnished dragon skin pattern all over. The powerful Year of the Dragon icon in the center holds a pearl, which in Chinese culture symbolizes wisdom, prosperity and fortune.

A wooden tray inside the box reveals two cigar sections that are divided by a silky red ribbon inspired by the Dragon’s tongue.

TASTING NOTES:

1/3 – The uncut foot of the cigar offers an inch of enjoyment without the wrapper leaf, during which earthy, wooden and herbal notes are present. Once the wrapper takes over, the taste changes to rich notes of roasted nuts, cream and subtle liquorice.

2/3 – The intensity rises in the second third, when notes of sweet honey, white pepper and citrus dominate. The double corona format and 8 different types of tobaccos of a combined age of 60 years create and elegant and sophisticated taste journey.

3/3 – In the cigars final third, fresh spice and oak wood complement the dominating notes of dark chocolate. The intensity remains the same as before, making the last part of this masterpiece especially smooth and well-balanced.

The cigars boast a blend of an Ecuadorian wrapper, binder, and fillers sourced from the Dominican Republic and Mexico's renowned San Andrés Valley. This is also the first time the brand incorporates a Dominican hybrid seed 98 from the prestigious Martín García region, situated west of Mao and south of Monte Cristi. Moreover, it is only the second time that Mexican tobacco has been used in a Davidoff blend.

Translated to English, “Liga Privada” means “private blend.” It is the perfect name, as this cigar was originally crafted not for resale, but for the personal humidors of Drew Estate. Dozens of intricate blends were created, but No. 9 was flawless in both flavour and character. Seven different tobaccos from seven distinct vegas are included. The wrapper is hand fermented for 18+ months & no sweat is allowed. Only four pairs within the Drew Estate factory are certified to produce these cigars & each pair is allowed to craft only 250 cigars per day. The cigars are then aged for a full year before being offered for sale.

Rich, complex and full bodied without being harsh, this amazing vitola is best described in one word: satisfying. Lush, earthy and espresso like with an incredibly dense body.
