Montecristo Edmundo Reserva Cosecha 2018
Montecristo Edmundo Reserva Cosecha 2018
The Montecristo Edmundo Reserva was originally intended as a 2022 release and is the nineth Reserva release, since the launch of the series in 2003 with the Cohiba Reserva Selección. It is also the second time that Montecristo has been selected to create a Reserva, following the Montecristo No.4 in 2007.
These rare cigars are presented in numbered luxury boîte nature boxes containing twenty cigars and each one is decorated with a second silver and black Reserva band. Just 5,000 numbered boxes (100,000 cigars) have been produced for the worldwide market and all the tobaccos used in their creation has been aged in bales for three years prior to rolling. In this instance, the Montecristo Edmundo Reserva has been made exclusively using tobacco from the 2018 harvest (cosecha).
The Edmundo Reserva has been blended to the classic medium to full bodied Montecristo taste that many people consider the benchmark against which all other Havanas are measured. Established in 1935, today Montecristo is the world’s most popular Habanos brand and, in the UK, the Montecristo No.4 is one of the bestselling Havana cigars.
The original Edmundo - 5 1/3” (135mm) x 52 ring gauge - was released in 2004 and has since been joined by the Petit Edmundo (2006), Double Edmundo (2013) and Wide Edmundo (2021). In 2010 the Montecristo Edición Limitada (a Cañonazo size) was named the Grand Edmundo.
The name Edmundo is inspired by Edmundo Dantes, the eponymous hero of Alexandre Dumas’s novel, The Count of Montecristo “All Montecristo are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade and use only the finest leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. The finest tobacco in the world.”

The Cigar
One of the original sizes of Cohibas that were launched in 1982, it is perhaps sometimes overshadowed by some of the newer and larger format cigars within the range. However, this slender and elegant looking cigar has enough power and depth to capture the attention of any cigar smoker. A cigar with the well-earned status of classic.

For many people the Epicure No.2 is a long-established favourite and a popular ‘turn to’ cigar. So it is perhaps a little surprising it has taken so long to see the first Hoyo Reserva. On the evidence so far from its delayed appearance in 2018, it has been well worth the wait.

The Partagás Lusitania, Gran Reserva has been released in the UK and is available throughout the network of Havana Cigar Specialists.
This extremely limited production cigar comes in 5,000 lacquered boxes containing 15 cigars (only 75,000 cigars have been produced for the global market). The blend has been devised by Arnaldo Bichot, the master blender at the Partagás Cigar Factory. The wrapper, binder and filler leaves were harvested in 2007 and then subjected to a long and thorough aging process.
The 2007 harvest actually began in December 2006 and finished in March 2007. Each of the five types of leaf used to make this cigar (three in the filler, one for the binder and the last for the wrapper) underwent the standard curing, sorting, fermentation and classification processes that take up to twelve months to complete. Then they were packed into bales to mature gradually during the last nine months of 2008, all of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, and the first three months of 2013.
The idea of special productions of Cuban cigars made from aged leaves is not new. Ediciones Limitadas, first released in 2000 were originally dressed in wrappers that had been aged for two years, rather than the standard six months. Since 2007 all of the tobaccos used in these cigars, including filler and binder, have been aged for two years.
The start of 2004 saw the release of the first Reserva, the Cohiba Selección Reserva, a selection of five different vitolas that had been produced using tobaccos that had been aged for three years. Since then there have been three more Reserva releases, each in 5,000 numbered boxes of 20 cigars, 100,000 cigars in total. 2005 saw the release of the Partagás Serie D No. 4, 2007 the Montecristo No. 4 and 2012) saw the introduction of the Romeo y Julieta Churchill (released in 2013).
To date there has only been two previous Gran Reservas. 2009 saw the launch of the Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva, then in 2011 it was the turn of the Montecristo No.2 (released in 2012). Now, in 2013 the Partagás Lusitania assumes its rightful place in this exalted canon
