The Burley is the base of the blend with chocolate topping to accentuate its natural nuttiness, creaminess, and earthiness.

Kentucky brings out the boldness, giving a darker chocolate feel. The orientals offer a little floral spice and some minor sour.

Finally, Virginia balances the burley with grassy citrus earthiness. The blend burns cool and consistently, behaving well as it is smoked.

The term “Angel’s Share” is used in the wine-making process. Winemakers often use oak barrels to store their wine during the aging process. When the wine ages for long periods of time, some of it will evaporate from the barrel. The evaporated wine is called the Angel’s Share, alluding to the belief that the guardian angels that watch over the wine, sample it and give their blessings.

Since Fuente lost so much priceless aged tobacco during the fire in 2012, the inspiration for this cigar came from that exact term.

The burned-down warehouses contained tobacco that had been aging since the late 40s and 50s. The Fuente family was saving it for the special 100-year anniversary. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as the fire consumed much of the precious tobacco. It made the family extremely sad and depressed, but out of that came the Angel’s Share cigar.

From this, it is implied that the Angels enjoyed the enticing aroma from the tobacco that burned in the barns but in turn, gave their blessings to the Fuente family for future successful endeavors.

The Fuente Fuente OpusX Angel’s Share uses a wrapper from the middle priming of the tobacco plant as opposed to the top priming from which Fuente Fuente OpusX are typically made. Carlos Fuente Jr. focused more on this part of the plant, which he believes is where most of the heart and flavour is.

Backwoods Original Cigars

A pack of five loosely rolled, machine made cigars with a distinctive natural flavour and nose-pleasing aroma.

Expect a rough looking stogie and a mild and flavourful smoke.

Backwoods Silver - Smooth creaminess with hints of custard, vanilla and dark coffee

Backwoods cigars have been a huge hit from when they were first launched in 1981 in the USA. They are machine made using 100% premium natural tobacco & are famous for their dinstinctive rustic appearance.

'Wild & Mild' they have a tapered body with a frayed end and unfinished head. The rustically designed airtight foil pouch locks in the moisture and maintains their aroma.

Gawith Hoggarth's American CV Blend (Cherry & Vanilla) is a wonderfully flavoured mix of Cavendish and Burley tobaccos lightly cased and topped with cherry and vanilla flavours. It reminds of an ice cream cone with cherry sauce and a light sprinkling of nuts. The base tobaccos work harmoniously with the added flavouring and can be tasted through it, though this blend can be enjoyed while relaxing and dreaming of a sunny seaside.

Opening the packet reveals coarse cut rich black ribbons entwining with chestnut and golden brown strands. The aroma is sweet and fruity, of the added flavours but you can also make out the base tobacco notes too. It's easy to pack into the bowl and burns evenly, thoroughly and gives a long, cool smoke.

Inspired by the flavours of historical rums, the 2022 Black Tot Master Blender's Reserve is made with a blend of rums from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana, as well as Black Tot's Perpetual Reserve rum. Aromas of melted chocolate, toasted hazelnuts, orange, cinnamon sticks, pineapple juice, blackcurrant and raspberry leaf fill the nose, complemented by notes of milk chocolate-covered raisins, café latte, ripe banana, aniseed, crème caramel with demerara sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon throughout the palate.

• Nose

  Melted chocolate nibs, toasted hazelnuts are offset against warm orange and cinnamon sticks with a background of mixed tropical juice and cassis. Blackcurrant and raspberry leaf start to come to the fore with time in the glass.

• Palate

  Initial flavours of milk chocolate and raisins are complimented with café latte and ripe banana. A touch of aniseed balances against a light hint of tropical fruit and a wonderful rich baked demerara sugar top to a crème caramel.

• Finish

  Cinnamon and nutmeg spice along with chili and cocoa linger for an age.

This is the fourth edition of the Master Blender’s Reserve which is inspired by an original style of navy rum and comprises spirits from Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, Grenada as well as its perpetual reserve blend. Aromas of tawny Port, espresso and cacao fill the nose with toffee, liquorice and cherry on the palate.

Bolivar Belicosos Finos

The Cigar:

As one would expect from a brand that is named after such a powerful figure, this cigar is full bodied. Bolivar is simply one of the richest and most commanding brands within the Habanos portfolio. Although not for the novice, these traits are what make it one of the most sought-after names amongst more experienced cigar smokers.

The full gauge of the Belicoso Fino, combined with the tapered end of this Campana shape, which means “bell” in Spanish, creates the ideal format for a robust blend of leaves. The Belicoso Fino is presented either in labelled boxes or Cabinet Selection bundles of 25 cigars. The cigars in bundles are now banded.

In 2007 Cigar Aficionado described this cigar as “A gorgeous torpedo gleaming with oils. It has a near perfect draw that imparts a luxuriously textured smoke rich with profound wood and tobacco flavours”. Then, when revisiting the cigar in 2010 went on to say “The smoke has a velvety texture and is full of toast, earth and cedary flavours that cohere to a floral, herbaceous finish”. They also scored it an impressive 92 out of 100.

Min Ron NEE, in ‘An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post Revolution Havana Cigars’ describes the Belicosos Finos as a ‘Suave Bolivar’ with ‘earthy, subtle “tangy” fruity flavours’. He goes on to add ‘Bolivar is one of my favourite brands. If I was condemned to smoke only one brand, I have no hesitation that Bolivar would be the choice’.

Bolivar Belicosos Finos Reserva Cosecha 2016

The Cigar

This is the first time that Bolívar has been selected to create a Reserva and it is perhaps no surprise that they have chosen their most iconic vitola (size) to do so: The Belicoso Fino.

The Reserva classification signifies that all the tobacco used has been aged in bales for three years before being rolled into cigars. The leaves used for this particular release were all harvested in 2016.

The Bolívar Gold Medal will be returning to La Casa del Habano (LCDH) stores around the world, but it won’t be the same Bolívar Gold Medal as before.

Habanos S.A. has announced that the Bolívar New Gold Medal will be available exclusively to LCDH stores. It’s a size known as the Partagás 15, 6 1/2 (165mm) x 48. That’s the same length as the original Gold Medal, but the ring gauge has increased from 42 ring gauge.

Like the previous Gold Medal, the cigar is covered in golden foil that begins at the top of the cigar and the Bolívar band is placed over the foil at the bottom of the foil. A red LCDH band is placed below that. It will be offered in 10-count boxes.

Bolivar Petit Coronas

Simon Bolivar was one of the great historic figures of the 19th Century who liberated much of South America from Spanish rule.

The Bolivar brand was created in 1902 and is based today in the Partagas factory which is in the heart of Havana. 

It is perhaps not surprising that a Habano named after such a powerful figure is blended to match his might. Bolivar is among the strongest, most full bodied of all Habanos. It boasts an unrivalled richness of flavour in its blend of Vuelta Abajo zone filler and binder tobacco that makes it one of the most sought-after marques amongst experienced smokers.

The much-anticipated Bolivar Regentes is the 2021 Habanos Limited Edition and measures 5 1/8” (130mm) x 52 ring gauge. The vitola is known as a Discretos in the world-famous cigar factories of Cuba and are presented in special production SLB boxes containing 25 cigars.

The Bolivar Regentes shares its dimensions with the Partagás Maduros No.1 and delivers voluminous rounded smoke to the palate which is balanced with intense layered flavours and rich aromas. A signature for this powerful Habanos brand.

All the tobacco for the Bolivar Regentes has been aged for a minimum of two years which from 2007 was a standard introduced to all leaves destined to become an Edición Limitada Habano.

Although this is perhaps not a cigar for the novice, the characteristics make it one of the most sought-after marques among more experienced cigar smokers and for collectors looking to round the robust, rich aromas even further by laying them down to age.

Bolivar Royal Coronas

As one would expect from a cigar brand named after such a powerful figure, this cigar is rich and full bodied. It is simply one of the richest and commanding brands within the Habanos portfolio. Although this is certainly not a cigar for the novice, these traits are what make it one of the most sought-after marques among more experienced cigar smokers.

The full gauge of the Royal Coronas (known as a Robusto within Cuban cigar factories) creates the ideal format for this muscular blend of leaves, creating a cigar of exceptional balance.

Cigar Aficionado recently reviewed this cigar, scoring it an impressive 94 out of 100 saying “Current Bolivar RCs (Royal Coronas) seem to take their inspiration from what we consider one of the golden ages for Cuban smokes, the late 1980s and early 1990s. That was when Cuban cigarmakers created and made some of their best cigars. “They also made it their Cigar Of The Year in 2006.

The Cigar

Description

Bolivar Silver Jubilee 2017 RE Hong Kong is part of only 2,500 numbered cabinets. An incredible cigar that is perfect to smoke on a sunny evening.

The Bolívar is a rather peculiar vitola because it has a 109-style cap, which is a hybrid between a normal round parejo and a tapered belicoso. Rather than coming to a point, the 109-style caps create a softer taper. It’s a cap that Habanos S.A. has typically used on much larger cigars and thanks to increasing popularity, many non-Cuban manufacturers have used it on other sizes.

The Duke vitola (size) was first made famous by the R&J Duke from 2009 but is perhaps best known as the format of the Partagas Serie E No.2. This is just the second time that Bolivar has been selected to produce a Limited Edition and has proved very popular with lovers of full flavoured Havanas.
