Bolivar Royal Coronas

The Cigar:

As one would expect from a cigar brand named after such a powerful figure, this cigar is rich and full bodied. It is simply one of the richest and commanding brands within the Habanos portfolio. Although this is certainly not a cigar for the novice, these traits are what make it one of the most sought-after marques among more experienced cigar smokers.

The full gauge of the Royal Coronas (known as a Robusto within Cuban cigar factories) creates the ideal format for this muscular blend of leaves, creating a cigar of exceptional balance.

Cigar Aficionado recently reviewed this cigar, scoring it an impressive 94 out of 100 saying “Current Bolivar RCs (Royal Coronas) seem to take their inspiration from what we consider one of the golden ages for Cuban smokes, the late 1980s and early 1990s. That was when Cuban cigarmakers created and made some of their best cigars. “They also made it their Cigar Of The Year in 2006.

Min Ron NEE, in ‘An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post Revolution Havana Cigars’ describes the royal Coronas as ‘Suave’ with ‘earthy and peppery flavours’. He goes on to add ‘Bolivar is one of my favourite brands. If I was condemned to smoke only one brand, I have no hesitation that Bolivar would be the choice’.

Cohiba Medio Siglo

The Cigar:

The Medio Siglo, literally “Half Century” was released to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary and draws inspiration from the Linea 1492’s shortest (Siglo I at 4”, 104mm) and widest (Siglo VI at 52 ring gauge) offerings. The unique ‘extra fermentation’ that is conducted on the Seco and Legero of all Cohibas lasts for up to eighteen months and is conducted at the factory in cedar barrels. This extra age creates a unique taste. The famous Cohiba flavour is most often described as ‘Grassy’, although others have noticed tones of vanilla, cocoa and coffee. It is often noted how this extra fermentation makes the taste ‘smoother’ and more refined. Min Ron NEE, in his book “An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars” says of the Siglo range “Mild, creamy sweetness, medium bean flavour, subtle @Cohiba’ Grassy taste, mild floral and herbal flavours... all agree the Siglo IV is the best and most well balanced”. This very modern looking cigar delivers bundles of characteristic Cohiba taste, in a format ideal for when time is short. Cohiba Piramides Extra

The Cigar:

In 2012 the Priamide Extra became the first addition to the Linea Clasica since 1989. The vitola is unique to Cohiba. It is also the only figurado shape to be found within the portfolio of Cuba's premier cigar brand.

H.Upmann Magnum 50

The Cigar:

Piloted as one of the highly successful 2005 Edicion Limitadas, the Magnum 50 entered the range as a standard size in 2008. A big cigar, just over six inches in length, that delivers a rounded, mellow flavour and aroma.

H.Upmann Magnum 54

The Cigar:

H. Upmann is classified as Light to Medium by Habanos S.A, the Cuban company
responsible for the global marketing and distribution of Cuban cigars.

The H. Upmann taste is often said to have a clear and clean tobacco taste, often
mistakenly described as ‘simple’ by less experienced smokers.

The American publication, Cigar Aficionado scored this cigar 89 out of 100 in a February
2017 review, saying "This cigar exudes a pleasant, toasty aroma as it burns. Floral intonations segue into a strong peanut character with touches of cinnamon, woodiness and a mineral finish.”

Although relatively young this cigar is already smoking very well and exhibiting many
classic H. Upmann flavours. However, it seems destined to develop even more once it
has acquired two or three years age.

H.Upmann Magnum 46

The Cigar:

This cabinet selection cigar tied in a silk-ribboned bundle first saw the light of day in the mid 1980s. It revitalised the traditional image of the brand with its elegant light to medium taste in a girth that rewards the palate. far.

Hoyo De Monterrey De San Juan

The Cigar:

Hoyo de Monterrey is by far the most popular brand within the light flavour category outlined by Habanos S. A. The Le Hoyo series is typified by a delicate, cedar taste with a hint of white pepper and cream, that remains light enough for inexperienced smokers, while offering enough elegance and layering of flavours to keep aficionados satisfied.

Min Ron NEE in his 2003 tome ‘An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars’ says Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are ‘characterised by their soft, sweet style. The tobacco blend is creamy sweet, mild and aromatic’.

This new cigar displays all of these classic characteristics but, with a 54 ring gauge, does so within a very modern format. Most agree that, although it is displaying a great deal of subtlety, finesse and delicacy already, it also has wonderful ageing potential for the medium to long term.

A most welcome addition to the Hoyo family.

Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Especial

The Cigar:

Introduced as the top of the Epicure line in 2008, this extralength robusto delivers the classic light-flavoured elegance of the Epicure No.2 for an additional five eighths of an inch.

Hoyo De Monterrey Epicures No.1

The Cigar:

A long standing favourite amongst the admirers of this classic, heavyish gauge size. Lighter tasting than the Punch Punch or Cohiba Siglo IV, but plenty of fragrant complexity nonetheless.

Hoyo De Monterrey Epicures No.2

The Cigar:

The robusto of choice for many cigar epicureans. Formerly presented without any band, now it sports no less than two, so its identity is clear.

Montecristo Edmundo

The Cigar:

Named after Alexandre Dumas’ hero Edmundo Dantes in ‘The Count of Montecristo’, the Edmundo was one of the first extra heavy gauge, parejo sizes produced in Cuba in the 21st century. Big and rewarding.

The Cigar:

The largest of the Montecristo Open series introduced in 2009. Its innovative 54 ring gauge format houses a different, slightly lighter tobacco blend than you find in standard Montecristos. Suits experienced and novice smokers alike

Montecristo OPEN  Master

The Cigar:

The Open Series made way, at last, for a Robusto size in Montecristo’s illustrious line-up. A delightful, medium bodied addition in this popular shape sporting the allimportant fleur-de-lys on its band.

Montecristo OPEN  Regata

The Cigar:

A completely new figurado shape made in the image of the famous No.2, but shorter and thinner. All the smoking characteristics of its big brother are preserved in a lighter flavoured, less time consuming size.

Montecristo OPEN  Junior

The Cigar:

The smallest of the Open Series. The Junior takes the form of a rare vitola previously only found in the Le Hoyo Series (du Deputé). A perfect morning or aperitif smoke.

Montecristo Petit Edmundo

The Cigar:

Edmundo’s little brother blessedly burst onto the scene just ahead of the smoking ban, so that devotees of heavy gauge, intense flavoured cigars had a shorter alternative.

Montecristo Petit No.2

The Cigar:

All the medium to full character of the classic No.2 in a shorter smoke. A welcome additon to Montecristo’s line-up, which is also dressed in the new band.

The latest release from Habanos to arrive in the UK is the Montecristo Wide Edmundo. It is the fourth cigar in the brand’s portfolio to bear the Edmundo name, following the launch of the original in 2004. However, uniquely among its stablemates, the Wide Edmundo is dressed with a second band bearing
its name. The Wide Edmundo is an entirely new vitola (size) within the Habanos portfolio called the Duke No.3. It measures an impressive 4 7/8” (125mm) x 54 ring gauge.. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that makes it the heaviest ring gauge in the Edmundo range.

Montecristo is the benchmark brand for many cigar smokers. Its perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world. All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Partagas Serie D No.4

The Cigar:

Many see this as the definitive Robusto. With its controlled, rich, complex taste and distinctive red and gold band, they have a good point. A pure bred Havana.

Partagas Serie D No.5 (D5)

The Cigar:

Following the success of a limited edition version of this size in 2008 the Serie D No.5 joined the ranks of Partagas’s standard sizes in 2011. Its tobacco leaves are selected and aged according to the normal criteria for the brand.

Partagas Serie E No.2

The Cigar:

2011 saw the addition of a new letter to the Partagas Alphabet Series. The E means the cigar has a ring gauge of 54. A big cigar in size and taste with attractive packaging improvements too.

Partagas Serie P No.2 (P2)

The Cigar:

A rich, earthy, full flavoured ‘torpedo’. This easy drawing, satisfying size was a welcome addition to Partagas when Habanos S.A. introduced it in 2005. The P stands for Pirámide – its factory name.

Punch Petit Coronations

The Cigar:

A decent sized small cigar with a slightly rustic edge to its taste also in the new design of tube. Lively and rewarding wherever you choose to light it up.

The Cigar:

The signature Corona Gorda size that has been a big player amongst heavy girth Havanas for five decades. You can depend upon it to deliver the vivacious notes that separate Cubans from the rest. Now in aluminium tubes.

Romeo y Julieta Churchill

The Cigar

Romeo’s time honoured star size. The vitola dates from the early 20th century. Churchill permitted his name to be used on it from the mid 1950s. Imposing, statesmanlike; a commanding size that rewards the smoker with richly developing flavours.
