A mighty cigar with a surprisingly subtle and creamy flavour. It rocketed to stardom when the second issue of Cigar Aficionado rated a late ‘80s example 99 out of 100. Still a cigar to be reckoned with.

Hoyo de Monterrey is by far the most popular brand within the light flavour category outlined by Habanos S. A. The Le Hoyo series is typified by a delicate, cedar taste with a hint of white pepper and cream, that remains light enough for inexperienced smokers, while offering enough elegance and layering of flavours to keep aficionados satisfied.
Min Ron NEE in his 2003 tome ‘An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars’ says Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are ‘characterised by their soft, sweet style. The tobacco blend is creamy sweet, mild and aromatic’.
This new cigar displays all of these classic characteristics but, with a 54 ring gauge, does so within a very modern format. Most agree that, although it is displaying a great deal of subtlety, finesse and delicacy already, it also has wonderful ageing potential for the medium to long term.
A most welcome addition to the Hoyo family.
VITOLA: Geniales RING GAUGE: 54 LENGTH: 5 7/8 inches - 150 mm FLAVOUR: Light
Le Hoyo de Rio Seco is the second recent introduction to the "le Hoyo Series", following the 2015 release of Le Hoyo de San Juan. These cigars only use Seco and Ligero leaves grown in San Juan y Martinez, a small town in Vuelta Abajo, a world-famous tobacco growing zone in Cuba
VITOLA: Aromosos RING GAUGE: 56 LENGTH: 5 1/2 inches - 140 mm FLAVOUR: Light
Perhaps this cigar would have been better named Epicure No.3 as its presentation and style of taste are identical to the Epicure 1 & 2. Introduced in 2004, it was a timely anticipation of what smokers would face with smoking bans.
VITOLA: Petit Robusto RING GAUGE: 50 LENGTH: 4 inches - 102 mm FLAVOUR: Light
The Hoyo de Monterrey Primavera celebrates the 2021 Chinese New Year and is available in very limited quantities. It is only the second time a cigar has been released by Habanos s.a. to commemorate the festivities and follows the popular Romeo y Julieta Maravillas 8 in 2020 (Year of the Rat).
Each of the 18 cigars presented in the stunning commemorative wooden lacquered boxes are dressed with a unique foot band which are branded “Year of the Ox”. The cigars measure 6 5/8” (167mm) x 48 ring gauge and the size is referred to as a Hermosos No.1 in the factories of Cuba. Only 8,888 numbered boxes will be produced for global release by Habanos s.a.
Hoyo de Monterrey is a light bodied Habanos brand named after a plantation in San Juan y Martínez in the heart of Vuelta Abajo. It remains one of the most famous Vegas de Primera to this day (first class tobacco fields) where somewhat fittingly for this cigar is still ploughed by oxen to this day so as not to compact the top-soil.
Hoyo de Monterrey Grand Epicure Limited Edition 2013
Sharing its size with the instantly popular Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, it came as no surprise that the Grand Epicure quickly acquired a large and committed set of admirers. A charming cigar presented in SLB boxes of ten and dressed in a special band with “Grand Epicure” printed under the main logo.
Originating from the town of San Juan y Martinez in the Vuelta Abajo zone, Hoyo de Monterrey traces its roots to the renowned Vegas de Primera plantation. Accessible through a gate inscribed "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960." on the main square, this plantation is situated in a low-lying position along the San Juan y Martinez river, as indicated by the term "Hoyo," meaning "hole."
Founded by Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, in 1865, the Hoyo de Monterrey brand carries the legacy of its vega's name. The blend of Hoyo de Monterrey is known for its delicate yet aromatic profile, offering a lighter taste with remarkable elegance and complexity, making it an appealing choice for aficionados.
